This was a great way to get a feel for the world of the Washington youth and the environmental issues that they are facing. The topics discussed ranged from the topic of the water crisis in Flint, MI to carbon dioxide emissions from cars. This was also a great opportunity to see and learn about the work that the WYFS team is doing to combat climate change.
The WYFS team has been working for years on the issue of climate change. The group works in concert with the League of Conservation Voters to educate people on the issue and provide information on ways to get involved. The team also works with the National Wildlife Federation to educate people on the topic of the environmental impact of fracking and oil-drilling.
I think climate change is a real issue that needs to be addressed in the US, and the WYFS team is working hard to try to get that message out to as many people as possible. I’m glad to see that they’re bringing this issue out in a much more positive way.
The Washington Youth Summit on the Environment was held last week and its goal is to raise awareness about the issue and get more people involved. The summit was created to offer a place for young people in Washington DC to meet with people who are already active in this issue. The summit also had a very cool thing going on where they brought together a group of high school students who were looking to get involved in their school’s environment.
They gathered at the National Aquatic Center to kick off the summit.
I attended the summit and the event was very well attended. They gave out lots of T-shirts and raffle prizes, as well as some really cool posters that had a lot of information on it. I liked seeing all the signs and stuff. One of the posters had a lot of information on the issue that had been gathered by summit attendees and one of the many things that was said was “We can’t fight climate change if we don’t know what we’re doing.
After the summit, we got to see many of the posters (and the T-shirts and raffle prizes) at the event and talked with the organizers about what was going on. At the beginning of the program, there was a video with a presentation by Paul Nelson and Dr. Laura Ziskin from the University of Washington about climate change. The video was made public and showed a variety of ways climate change could negatively impact life on earth. Dr.
Ziskin’s presentation covered three important aspects of climate change. One was the fact that extreme heat and cold affect the health of humans and animals. Another was that the effects of heatwaves and colds can have long-term effects on the environment. And finally, there were many examples of how the effects of climate change can affect local businesses. After watching the presentation, I was hooked.
As I listened to Dr.Ziskins’ presentation, I kept wondering, “What would the world be like if we were all just a few degrees hotter?” And then I thought, “Why would anyone want to do that?” As it turns out, it might sound insane, but some people do.
The world is already a bit warmer than it was 25 years ago. The United Nations predicts that by the year 2030, it’ll be 90 degrees hotter than at the time of the Paris Agreement. We’re already seeing the worst effects of climate change, such as droughts and rising sea levels. The IPCC is expected to produce a report in 2020 showing the extent of warming. However, some scientists say that the report isn’t ready yet.
