I’m not sure if it’s any different when we have a baby, but there is the physical changes of hormones and the new responsibility that comes with being more alert and aware. We can be so busy that we forget to be present with our baby, and in turn, neglect to pay attention to our own daily activities.
Many of the things that we do as babies are based on the idea that we will be able to use our brain as an extension of our brain, a sort of “memories bank.” This idea of memory as an extension of brain is something that is very prevalent in our culture, but there are plenty of times when we forget the obvious and we have to remind ourselves to pay attention.
This notion of remembering our lives as the extension of our brain was originally promoted by the ancient Greeks and is a theme in all literature we have. You might think that you don’t need to do any of the things that would be good for your sleep hygiene, but when you’re busy you don’t have time to do the things that will help you sleep. In fact, if you can’t sleep until 10am even if you’ve only got a few minutes before you need to go to work, you’re probably in trouble.
