I have a pretty good idea of how much power my gaming PC will use and how much it will cost me to maintain. However, I have yet to see any gaming enthusiasts actually provide an honest measurement of their power usage. In fact, one study claims that gamers consume 50% of the world’s electricity. The average gamer consumes nearly 10 watts per hour, while a gaming pc will consume roughly 10 watts to complete the same task.
This is true, but not necessarily because gamers are the only ones who care. The average gamer has an average laptop that consumes roughly 5 watts of power. Gaming laptops are typically more powerful, and have higher clocks, so they can use more power, but they also consume more power.
The problem is that gamers think they are so much hunkier than everyone else. They have more power and more money, and therefore they think they are “power users.” But in a world where we can afford more power and even take a laptop into the mountains to enjoy the sunset, gamers still have less power than everyone else.
