The Detroit Lions take on the Green Bay Packers in Week-2, their earliest trip to Green Bay Packers since the 2003 season of NFL. For the first time in the history of the franchise, the Detroit Lions open up the NFL season against the Bears and Packers in consecutive order this year. It also marks only the second time; the team has played both bears and packers within the first 2 games of an NFL season (2005).
Detroit Lions travels to Arizona for the 3rd-consecutive year to play the Cardinals in NFL Week-3 as the clubs meet for the 8th time in the last nine NFL regular seasons. Since the NFL re-aligned in the year 2002, the Detroit Lions Schedule and Cardinals have met fourteen times, the most of any non-divisional NFL opponent for the Detroit Lions in that span.

The Lions and Texans have met only four times in the history of teams’ series. Since the merger of 1970, the Detroit Lions are 13-9 against all AFC teams in Thanksgiving Day matchups, and 37-41-2 overall since making their Thanksgiving debut after 1934. The Bye Week occurs of Detroit Lions Schedule in Week-5 (Sunday, October 11) of the NFL regular season. 2020 preseason schedule of Detroit Lions features a full slate of AFC East matchups, including all the home games against the New York Jets and Buffalo Bills (Weeks 2 and 4) and all the road contests against the New England Patriots and Miami Dolphins (Weeks 1 and 3).
“Flexible scheduling” will be used in Weeks-11 to Weeks-17 of the NFL season. In addition, in Weeks-5 to Week-10, the flexible scheduling might be used in no more than 2 weeks in this season. In Weeks-5 to Week-16, the regular schedule lists the games tentatively set for Sunday Night Football on NBC Network. Only the Sunday afternoon games of this series are eligible to be moved to Sunday night, in which case the tentatively scheduled NFL Sunday night game would be moved to an afternoon start time in this season.
For Week-17 of this season, all the Sunday night game will be announced no later than 6 days prior to January 3, 2020. The schedule does not list a Sunday night game in Week-17 yet, but an afternoon game of this regular season with all playoff implications will be moved to that time slot. Flexible scheduling of 2020-21 NFL season ensures the quality matchups in all Sunday time slots in those weeks and gives “surprise” all teams a chance to play their way into primetime.
Flexible scheduling should not be applied to games which is airing on Thursday or Monday nights.
